With the 79th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, the Red Wings select right wing Lane Zablocki out of Red Deer.

Here’s what Future Considerations says about him:

Zablocki isn’t a dynamic player but he works hard for his opportunities and has the skills to make the most of them. He is effective below the goal line, spinning off bodies to open lanes and making quick play with some recklessness, forcing his will to get to his spot on the ice. He has great compete although sometimes his aggression bills over into immaturity that leads him to take an ill-timed penalty. He plays with a physical edge and is disruptive without the puck. He has a chippy streak and part of his game includes trying to get in the head of the opposition.

Zablocki started the season with Regina before being traded to Red Deer. In total, he put up 54 points (28 G, 26 A) in 64 games last season. He’s projected to be a middle-six winger. Zablocki comes in at 6’1” and 190 lbs and was ranked 68th by Future Considerations.

Just an extra note, this pick was acquired from the Maple Leafs in exchange for Mike Babcock.
