Trevor Daley upgrades Detroit Red Wings within budget constraints

Jeff Blashill has a vision, and that vision is to possibly pair Danny DeKeyser with the newly acquired Trevor Daley. DeKeyser could very well benefit from playing alongside Daley, but it’s important to keep in mind that this defensive theory is contingent on Niklas Kronwall remaining healthy in 2017-18. I foresee much blue line juggling in Blashill’s future.

“I’ve talked about trying to find a partner for Danny,” Blashill said. “I thought towards the end of the year, Kronwall and Green played very well together, I liked the chemistry they had. So certainly we think Trevor is somebody who can play with Danny on that right side.”

Patrick Marleau gets three years from Maple Leafs, somehow

Prior to signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, it was rumored that Marleau’s free agency fate would be linked with Joe Thornton’s. As we all know now, the two longtime San Jose Sharks will now skate for different teams in 2017-18.

It will be entertaining watching Marleau skate alongside some of Toronto’s skilled youngsters. Mike Babcock, who has always been a pro-Marleau kind of guy, believes that Patrick could find the fountain of youth in Toronto.

If Marleau does indeed find a career resurgence with the Maple Leafs next season, the Red Wings, along with the rest of the Atlantic Division, will have their work cut out for them.
