Event: NHL All-Star Skills Competition 2018

Place: Amalie Arena - Tampa, FL

Time: 7:00pm ET

Television: NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVA Sports

With the Red Wings off until next Wednesday, we’ve got some alternate hockey entertainment for you tonight as the All-Star Weekend of on-ice events kicks off tonight in Tampa with my personal favorite of the two days: the Skills Competition.

While the league hasn’t been able to perfect the formula for showing off the insane talent of these players AND the personalities worth sharing, it’s fun to see what we can of both on a night like tonight. Here’s a list of events:

  • Enterprise NHL Fastest Skater
  • Dunkin’ Donuts NHL Passing Challenge
  • GEICO NHL Save Streak
  • Gatorade NHL Puck Control Relay
  • PPG NHL Hardest Shot
  • Honda NHL Accuracy Shooting

You can get a full breakdown of the events here, but aside from the sponsor names, it’s pretty easy to figure out what’s going on. Our lone Red Wings representative Mike Green will be seen in the Save Streak competition, as everybody plays along in that one, but he’s currently not slated for any of the other contests.

We’ll also see if Connor McDavid is able to overtake Dylan Larkin’s record as NHL’s fastest skater set two years ago.

It’s an open thread for tonight. If you’re into this kind of thing, have some fun watching it!
