Injury Update: Evgeny Svechnikov Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery; Expected to Miss 5-6 Months

NHL: Preseason-Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

According to the Red Wings Twitter account, forward Evgeny Svechnikov is more injured than we thought. He had surgery on his right knee for ACL reconstruction.

According to the team, his timeline for recovery is five to six months. Certainly not the news we wanted to hear.

This news could have an impact on whether or not Michael Rasmussen gets sent back down to juniors. The general feeling among fans was that Svechnikov would be ready to re-enter the lineup soon. Obviously that’s not the case.

The only positive news here is that the surgery was said to be successful.
