According to the Red Wings Twitter account, forward Evgeny Svechnikov is more injured than we thought. He had surgery on his right knee for ACL reconstruction.
According to the team, his timeline for recovery is five to six months. Certainly not the news we wanted to hear.
UPDATE: #RedWings forward Evgeny Svechnikov underwent successful surgery on his right knee today. Svechnikov required anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and is expected to miss 5-6 months. This news could have an impact on whether or not Michael Rasmussen gets sent back down to juniors. The general feeling among fans was that Svechnikov would be ready to re-enter the lineup soon. Obviously that’s not the case.
The only positive news here is that the surgery was said to be successful.
