Game Preview

Could it get any uglier for the Red Wings right now? No. They head out to the beautiful state of Florida for a mini road trip and take on the Lightning tonight. The Wings have been outscored 20-8 over their last three games — losses to the Maple Leafs, Bruins and Canadiens — and are still in search of their first victory of the 2018-19 campaign.

I guess the one bright side is the head start on the Jack Hughes sweepstakes. The Wings haven’t been this bad since the 1980’s (for those of you following along that might be before your time) and I can’t say it’s going to get better anytime soon. There are some bright spots in the young core and it would appear the front office is learning from past contractual mistakes as they scratched Michael Rasmussen against the Habs, perhaps paving the way for a return to junior (the bonus would be sliding a year of his ELC)? Nevermind, I may have spoken too soon...

Why not? This Wings team his abysmal so far this season and they are unlikely to be competitive, so don’t waste Rasmussen’s first year. The Bolts have won three of their first four games this year (all on home ice), and swept the season series with the Wings last year.

Lineup Notes

Yesterday’s roster move was a little bit unclear, but now we know why...

The Wings will get an addition to their blueline tonight as Trevor Daley returns to the lineup having previously missed some time with what was presumed to be a concussion.

Evgeny Svechnikov underwent successful knee surgery yesterday and will miss the next five to six months, so the Wings added some depth...

Sure, why not?

It looks like Danny DeKeyser is expected to miss some extended time, plus Jonathan Ericsson has been skating, but not cleared yet for game action. Expect Joe Hicketts to factor into tonight’s lineup.

On the other end...

The Bolts made headlines yesterday after Jake Dotchin was placed on waivers by the Anaheim Ducks. Why is that significant? Dotchin has currently filed a grievance against Tampa for terminating his contract as the team basically deemed him out of shape and not ready for the regular season. There are more details here...

The Bolts also placed Cory Conacher on waivers yesterday to possibly make room for Ryan Callahan coming off injured reserve, so keep an eye out for that.
