Red Wings recall trio of defensemen from Grand Rapids

Filip Hronek, Joe Hicketts, and Luke Witkowski have all been recalled from the Griffins.

DETROIT, Mich — The Red Wings recalled a trio of defensemen from Grand Rapids ahead of Thursday’s season opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team announced late Wednesday.

As the tweet says, the Red Wings have placed both Jonathan Ericsson and Niklas Kronwall on injured reserve. Ericsson is retroactive to September 20th, while Kronwall is retroactive to September 28th.

This move would indicate that the Red Wings will have an even younger lineup for the season opener than expected. We’ll see what this leads to for the opening night lineup. We’ll have lineup updates tomorrow after practice wraps up.
