LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Welcome to another regular season of Red Wings hockey! It’s going to be an exciting ride, start with Game #1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tonight’s home opener will begin with an emotional puck drop by Henrik Zetterberg, so have a beverage at your side and an entire box of tissues ready. ICYMI, the Wings will not be naming a captain this season and have given A’s to Larkin and Nielsen alongside Abdelkader and Kronwall.

The right decision in my mind, but argue away in the comments. I do however look forward to an uptick in Kronwall media interviews and more breakfast talks with Trev about oatmeal and Swedish home repair.

We learned yesterday that Jonathan Ericsson and Niklas Kronwall were placed on IR, which opened even more space on the defense. The Joe Hicketts Mafia* has been working overtime the past few weeks, allowing us to welcome home Hicketts and Hronek.

And a hearty “how do you do fellow kids” to Luke Witkowski...

*I’m only saying this isn’t a real thing because I don’t want to find a dead octopus in my bed, not because I don’t believe in the conspiracy I made up.

It’s going to be exciting to see how the Game 1 energy infects the youngins, I expect them to come out flying and make some bonehead turnover mistakes but also recover and make some Jackets look silly.

So, what about the Jackets?

What player on the Blue Jackets do you hate today? For me, it’s Nick Foligno.

The Jackets defense should be pretty solid this year with Zach Werenski leading the charge, however Seth Jones is currently on IR. They also have Artemi Panarin who tends to be a pain in the rear end, but with our defense including kids fighting for jobs we just might have a pesky crew on the ice tonight ourselves.

However, Jackets goaltending is something. They have Bobrosvsky who will probably be mad, but could possibly be good. Joonis Korpisalo has looked good for the Jackets in the preseason, but has been a regular season flop for them in the past.

Korpisalo does have a strong advantage in that I didn’t remember he existed, and those are the goaltenders who always stand on their head against the Wings.

But, it’s our home opener, and the players aren’t going to want to disappoint right out of the gate and the newbies are hungry for house shopping in Detroit. I’m ready for a barn burner and not a dumpster fire.

LET’S GOOOOOOO RED WINGS! Go out there, and win it for Zetterberg.
