WIIM Thanksgiving: What we are Thankful For

While the NHL is off today, we are not. Here at WIIM, we are thankful for many things on this holiday. Here are the things we are thankful for.

JJ: The Red Wings fan community and especially the WIIM Community. We’re a fun and diverse group of people who really do a great job of sharing our passions in a place where the conversation thrives respectfully and intelligently.

Sara: I’m thankful the Wings are completely ridiculous. After a disastrous start to the season they’re having a lot of fun taking the Lose for Hughes memo and folding it into something pointy and shoving it up people’s uhhhh turkeys. Can’t blow a third period lead if you don’t have one, we are snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and I love it.

I’m also thankful for Niklas Kronwall’s postgame interviews.

Prashanth: This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for a Red Wings team that is just plain fun to watch. It’s been a blast watching the young guys carry the team, regardless of whether they win or lose. Each night you’re seeing a player take the next step forward.

Additionally, I’m thankful to the WiiM community for allowing me to stay plugged in and connected to the fanbase even after I’ve stopped writing. Outside of hockey, I’m thankful for friends and family who have helped me discover new passions in life, namely baking, boxing, and bourbon.

Peter: I’m thankful for a Red Wings team that is more entertaining than I had anticipated. While the first period in New Jersey reminded me of watching New Jersey games in the 90s and 2000s, the second half of the game was much more exciting.

I’m also thankful for the WIIM community. JJ has always been supportive and fosters an environment in which we can try new things. Without WIIM I wouldn’t have had any of the great experiences of the last couple years, including starting a podcast, which I probably never would have done without JJ’s support. The support and camaraderie with every member of our writing and editing team makes this a great place to write for.

Lastly, I’m thankful for the WIIM community outside of the writers and editors. Our comments are notably better than the vast majority of communities, and that is in large part to our readers. We don’t always agree, but we almost always have productive discussions. Thanks!

Mike Bremer: This Thanksgiving I’m thankful for our Goose, who has been so great on the wing, and also because this is my last season to be thankful he is a Red Wing.

Josh: I’m thankful for Dennis Cholowski, and the Wings on a streak on the backs of their youngsters
