Stars Blog: Defending Big D
Things are starting to get ugly in Detroit. After being one of the hotter teams in the NHL through November, the Red Wings have lost 8 of their last 10 and are stumbling even further down in the standings as a result. The problem? Well you could kind of point to everything outside of Dylan Larkin, but for me, it has been getting those timely goals. 5 of the 8 losses have been by 1-goal, so they have been in games late, but just haven’t been able to come up clutch like they had been in November. With 2018 coming to a close, the Wings are looking to do everything they can to stop the bleeding, and that starts tonight in Dallas.
Meanwhile in the Big D, the Stars started December with a 4-game winning streak, but since then have gone 3-6 and have a -8 goal differential during that stretch. They are coming off a big 2-0 win in Nashville Thursday night, so expect a confident Stars team come puck drop. Dallas has turned to Anton Khudobin in each of their last two games, including a 49-save shutout vs. Nashville, so it will be interesting to see who Jim Montgomery starts in net tonight whether it be Khudobin or Ben Bishop. Only new news of note in Dallas is centers Martin Hanzal and Jason Dickinson were placed on IR yesterday, Connor Carrick has been activated and they sent down Gavin Bayreuther.
