Ducks Blog: Anaheim Calling
Last weekend, the Red Wings had a 3-goal lead against the Islanders and the Capitals, then let their opponent tie the game and head to overtime. That was where time lines diverged. It was kind of like those G.I. Joe “Choose Your Own Adventure” books I read when I was a kid. You would live vicariously in the book as one of the Joe’s and inevitably choose to go left or right down a jungle path. Choose left, get eaten by crocodiles. Choose right, defeat Cobra and save America. Choose Nyquist, get pick-pocketed and become humiliated by the Islanders. Choose Tatar, say ta-ta to Braden Holtby and the Caps. (Trade insanity intensifies.)
Now, the Wings come home to take on the Anaheim Ducks. Everybody remember these guys? They were the worst. The absolute worst. Back when the Wings were in the West, we could lose to Chicago and it would suck, but my hate was tempered with some level of respect. But Anaheim got no quarter. Here’s to hoping for old time’s sake. To a game of cursing, high blood pressure, and screaming at the TV!
The Ducks find themselves mucking about in Western Conference for the last wild card spot with a half dozen other squads. They are trailing the currently trailing the Wild and Flames by one point. The Ducks were supposed to be better than this, but goal scoring from the Ducks’ dynamic duo has receded worse than Getzlaf’s hairline. Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have a combined 18 goals between them over half way through the season! Still, they’ll be a desperate squad; this time of the season is the grind, and the Ducks are definitely playoff warriors with swagger. They know how to play hard this time of year. They left a point on the table Sunday night against the Sharks, so they’ll be looking to keep pace in the ultra-tight West against their old red-and-white rival.
