Sabres blog: Die By The Blade

Red Wings are back at home for the next two games before we hit the road, and we start tonight with the Sabres.

The Sabres are bad, really bad. Significantly worse than the Red Wings even. Here’s how tragic the Sabres are - on their own website, the advertisement for their app features a phone displaying an article with this headline, “Larkin nets 15th in Wings’ win over Sabres”.

They don’t even feature an article where they won the game.

However, we won’t win without a fight. We never do.

We had a dismal first period against the Preds, and while we played much better the second and third it wasn’t enough. However, we got to see a beauty of an AA goal and Tatar got his 16th tying him with Nyquist’s season total.

Our lead goal scorer Mantha got a mini benching from Blash - he probably had to sit in the corner until the timer dinged and think about what he did. But he came back firing shots from every angle like a madman, he just couldn’t get one in the net. He sure did try hard though, and I have to think he’ll get one in the next game or two.

While Holland is focused on trading, and we can only hope he’s serious about a rebuild finally, Blashill is focused on the process and compete level and whatever players he has not being a galactic embarrassment every time we take the ice. That’s the new Red Wings way. Bottom line, Zetterberg isn’t about to let anyone loaf their way through the rest of the season. So, whether you’re on the tank or on the happy bus, fasten your seatbelt and prepare your hottest takes, we have work to do.

Let’s Go Red Wings!

The Wings had an optional practice yesterday and we haven’t heard anything about Mike Green’s status, but there’s a good chance they’re not risking him this close to the trade deadline.
