In the early hours of the NHL’s Trade Deadline day, a report coming from Craig Custance of The Athletic indicate that Mike Green has signed off on a couple of teams that he would accept a trade to.
Custance says Green has signed off on a trade to both the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Washington Capitals. You can read more here; this is pay-walled content.
Earlier this morning, Elliotte Friedman tweeted out that he believes the Capitals are also “poking” around on the Ryan McDonagh front:
Think WASH continues to poke around on D...checked in on Ryan McDonagh, though they appear to have moved on.

McDonagh would likely be a better option for most teams — he brings a little term to his contract; but the asking price is going to be higher than that of Mike Green. Still, if Washington is trying to improve, I think they start with working towards the Rangers rearguard. If they can’t strike something there, then move on to a player like Green.
Custance also says that the Red Wings best bet to making a big splash is to trade Gustav Nyquist or Tomas Tatar. He believes there could be a deal for either right this moment, bringing in a draft pick and a prospect — but the team isn’t rushing to move them at this time.
Still, deadline day is young. A lot can happen. I will be working tirelessly from my couch to bring you the good (or really bad) news.
