The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun provides some additional details on these draft picks. The Red Wings will get a 1st round pick this year, and a 2nd round pick in 2019, and a 3rd round pick in 2021. The Red Wings continue to stockpile draft picks.
This is a big win for the Red Wings.
He’s a solid forward, and has proven to be so, but the Red Wings will shed his contract, and open up a roster spot without shedding any salary, as per Craig Custance. I think most would say the Golden Knights overpaid for this, but they were rich in assets and cap space. There are no conditions on the trade, this is three draft picks for Tomas Tatar, straight up.
Ken Holland spun a good deal here, despite the fact that the first-round pick will end up being later.
