Vegas blog: Knights on Ice

Red Wings welcome the Golden Knights (feat. Tomas Tatar, whoever that is) to Hockeytown tonight before hitting the road for 5 straight - including a West Coast road trip so plan your sleep accordingly.

Our last game was a 6-5 OT loss to Boston on Tuesday, which showed both that Coreau may not physically exist in our reality and that the Wings are still motivated to fight back when the game goes “2 goals against in the first minute” kinds of wrong just to spite #TeamTank.

The Knights have lost 4 of their last 5, however barring a meltdown even the Leafs would find outrageous they’re still going to make the playoffs and keep their Cup dream alive. They’ll be coming into tonight looking to turn things around and prove that this slump was just a blip and not a sign of things to come.

The Wings are generally quite courteous in allowing other teams to win and end their losing streaks, however it would be nice to deflate the Vegas ego balloon a bit and join the Islanders and Flyers in the 2-0 club.

The Injury Report

The big news for us is Frans Nielsen who left the game against Boston after a (cheap) hit to the head from David Backes that lead to a 3-game suspension for Backes. Frans has been doing a little bit of everything for us this season, so it definitely hurts to lose him from the lineup. With him out at least two games, enter Evgeny Svechnikov!

The Knights fanbase is anxiously awaiting news on Reilly Smith who left their game Tuesday after a hit at the end of the 2nd period. Smith has been a leader for Vegas this season racking up 60 points, but we should know soon (if we don’t already) whether or not we’ll see him tonight.

Last Word

Does he score? Is it the GWG? Does he sabotage VGK from within? Does he park a tricked out wheelchair in front of Kronwall’s locker? Leave your Tatar predictions in the comments!

Let’s Go Red Wings!

[Editor’s Note - Y’all get crazy spun up about what we put in here but we don’t have any updates that give good guidance on what to expect with Nielsen out and the expected Svechnikov call-up, so keep an eye out for gameday updates for more info]
