In Red Wings Land (kinda)
Giroux, Flyers Gain In Metropolitan Division With OT Win Against Bruins | Adam Kimelman, NHL.com
Ok, yeah, this isn’t exactly directed at the Wings. But, Philly’s 2 points put them that much closer to securing a playoff spot and bumping up the pick we acquired from them for this year’s Entry Draft from a 4th-rounder to a 3rd. At this point the only danger of them missing comes from the Florida Panthers, and they’re 8 points back of Philly with 5 games remaining. This situation could be solidified by the end of tomorrow night, as Florida has back-to-backs tonight and tomorrow vs the Hurricanes and the Predators - if Florida comes away with less than two points, we get the upgrade!
Around The League
The Five Most Disappointing Teams In The NHL This Season | Steven Psihogios, Puck Daddy/Yahoo
This is just delicious. First, the Chicago Blackhawks occupy the opening spot on the list - anything to put Chicago into a reality check is worth your time. Then, Edmonton gets skewered for the Hall/Larsson trade. The author then moves on to hand it to Montreal for their offseason moves that failed to produce results! I won’t spoil the whole thing, or tell you if Detroit made the list, but I will say that it’s hard to disappoint when you have zero expectations to begin with (like the Wings).
