Canadiens Blog: Eyes On The Prize

We are almost to the finish line folks. Despite long ago being eliminated from the playoffs the Wings have refused to go quietly into that good night. They have found a bit of a spark since coming off that disastrous West Coast trip/10 game losing streak. Prior to blowing a 4-1 lead to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday the Wings had won three straight. Tonight, they take on the Montreal Canadiens in the penultimate game in the inaugural season in LCA.

Montreal comes in on a three-game losing streak. In fact, their last win was back on March 26th over the Wings in Montreal. Two Brendan Gallagher tallies and a couple on the power play from Alex Galchenyuk and Paul Byron lead the way last time. They will need the same kind of effort from those three tonight as they are 1-2-3 on the team in goals. Jonathan Drouin has chipped in well as a playmaker with 31 assists as well. Defensively they are ok, especially with Shea Weber out. Karl Alzner, Jeff Petry and Noah Juulsen led them in ice time the last time and it is likely they will again tonight. In net the usual elite Carey Price will be spelled by the not-so-elite Antti Niemi.

For those on tank watch, the Red Wings can clinch at least the sixth worst record tonight with a loss in regulation and move Montreal to one point “ahead” of them with one game left. Only two games left everyone, enjoy Red Wings hockey however you can while you still can.
