Now that the NHL Lottery has been conducted, Detroit fans know that the team will pick 6th overall (barring trades, which seem unlikely).
If you’ve been visiting our comment sections lately, you’ve seen a lively debate about whom the Wings should take with that pick.
Between now and the NHL Draft, we’re going to see a lot of mock drafts and prospect ranking from different organizations.
On May 2, the ISS released their latest rankings for the NHL 18 Entry Draft.
Click on the link above for the full rankings, but here are the top 8: (positions as listed by ISS, I know that Tkachuk and Wahlstrom are typically listed as C/LW and C/RW respectively.)
- Rasmus Dahlin (LD)
- Andrei Svechnikov (RW)
- Filip Zadina (RW)
- Brady Tkachuk (C)
- Oliver Wahlstrom (C)
- Evan Bouchard (RD)
- Quinn Hughes (LD)
- Adam Boqvist (LD)
Interesting to see Wahlstrom in the 5 spot. I’ve stayed out of the comment discussions about whom we should select because I haven’t really started to look too closely at these players.
All things being equal, I do want a defenseman. So, unless the other player is thought to be noticeably better, I want to see us go with the best defenseman. There seems to be a lot of debate over which one of Hughes, Bouchard, or Boqvist that would be (or maybe even another player).
As we get closer to the draft, I’ll have more of an idea of whom I want us to pick, although I do feel good that it seems like we should be able to get a very good defenseman.
