Detroit Red Wings’ Filip Hronek shows promise at World Championship | Freep

I think this kid is going to make the Red Wings opening night roster next season and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do at the NHL level. Filip Hronek was taken with the extra 2nd round pick thrown in by the Coyotes in the Pavel Datsyuk trade. If he turns out to be good and Dennis Cholowski becomes an every day NHL player, it makes passing on Jakob Chychrun a little easier to stomach.

Ken Holland should let Mike Green walk and attempt to get rid of at least two other defensemen. Ideally, he would get rid of Danny DeKeyser or Jonathan Ericsson and their bad contracts, but I’m not going to hold my breath on that. Realistically, we’ll probably see the end of Xavier Ouellet or maybe Nick Jensen in a Wings sweater.

I wouldn’t mind if the defensive group on opening night looked like the following:

Niklas Kronwall

Jonathan Ericsson

Danny DeKeyser

Trevor Daley

Filip Hronek

Joe Hicketts

#6 pick (Evan Bouchard/Noah Dobson/Quinn Hughes/Adam Boqvist)

Is that group going to lead the Red Wings back to the playoffs? Probably not. It would be great, however, to see some of the younger guys get a real opportunity and experience.

Backstrom expected to play for Capitals in Game 6 against Penguins | NHL.com

Can the Caps finally slay the king and take down the Pens? It appears that Washington will have their second leading postseason scorer in the lineup tonight, so that will help. Curious if anyone actually thinks the Capitals can pull this off or will Pittsburgh do what they always do and find a way to beat their rival in a playoff series? Whomever wins this round will head to the Eastern Conference Final to play the Lightning.
