Detroit Red Wings mailbag: What will happen at NHL draft? | Freep

HSJ: The emphasis in the 2018 draft is on defensemen and centers. I expect the Wings to grab a defenseman with their first pick — right now it’s at sixth overall. I don’t get the sense they will move up, but possibly might move back one or two spots if the right deal emerges. I know they consider Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson very, very close in estimation. Both bring size and skill, and shoot right. I like Quinn Hughes — he’s on the small side, but such a dynamic skater.

And this:

HSJ: From people I talk to in the organization, Evan Bouchard appears to have slight edge over Noah Dobson.

So if we’re to believe everything we read from the Red Wings beat writers, it appears the team’s big three targets might be Filip Zadina, Evan Bouchard and Noah Dobson. Khan(!) mentioned last week that Ken Holland & Co. were interested in moving up to #3 to get Zadina or the idea of jumping to #4 or #5 to secure Bouchard. Helene above makes it pretty clear the Wings value Bouchard and Dobson over the rest of the defenseman expected to go top 10.

The question now is whether this information is true or just misdirection so other teams don’t pick up the scent of their real target (Quinn Hughes? Adam Boqvist? Brady Tkachuk?).

I, personally, can’t wait for the next few weeks and the draft.
