Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill revealed Sunday that captain Henrik Zetterberg has not trained all offseason, which further fuels the reality that he may not return to the NHL again.
After months of speculation, following a few years of uncertainty with how his back would hold up, it appears Zetterberg, the four-time 30-goal scoring mainstay, is destined for LTIRetirement. We’ll see what happens, but it sounds like in his absence, the team will move Andreas Athansiou into a center role, which will ultimately open up a spot for rookie players such as Filip Zadina, or Michael Rasmussen.
We took to Facebook Live to talk about the latest developments, and answer some questions. Also, Butters (the WIIM Mascot aka Kyle’s Boston Terrier) got some face time.. So if you don’t like hockey or the Red Wings, you can at least see a dog.
