2018-19 NHL Season Preview: Detroit Red Wings | The Athletic ($)
Another poor season could see Detroit rewarded with a foundational piece at the end of it, a key stepping stone towards the next competitive era of the franchise.
Lucky for them, the odds are in their favour to do just that as the Red Wings enter 2018-19 with the lowest projected point total (by nearly three points, though that can change if the next worst team trades the significant piece of their roster they’ve been rumoured to), and thus the best chance of securing a top pick in next year’s draft.
Damn.
Maybe the Red Wings really are going to be truly awful this season.
