Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! We’ve got me with Kyle and Mike B for your listening pleasure this time around. Here’s what we got up to:
The Wings are undefeated in preseason! - We run down the two wins in back-to-back nights at the Joe with two very different lineups and against two very different lineups.
Henrik Zetterberg is done and we’re not ready for it to have happened - What can be said for a guy who will be going down as one of the most-underrated great captains of this NHL era?
Steve Yzerman stepped down as the GM of the Lightning to spend more time with his family (who happens to be in Detroit) and is there a TON of smoke around the Red Wings’ future in terms of the GM position and the return of the guy they re-built a franchise around to re-build that same franchise. It’s pretty hard to ignore the tea leaves.
So how long do they wait on Larkin to hand him the C? Ken Holland dodged the question in an interview that aired on Thursday, but we covered the most-appropriate timeline for the transition of the captaincy to fully give Larkin the reins.
The Karlsson Trade - Did Ottawa get the best value they could have out of the shit-show they turned into the Erik Karlsson situation? San Jose didn’t have a highly-touted prospect pipeline and didn’t even give up their top prospects in this trade, but that’s all about how much damage the Sens did to their own trade positioning on Karlsson by running things like a clown show for as long as they have.
Max Domi is bad - That’s all. Sucker-punching people is dumb an only suspending a guy for games he doesn’t get paid for anyway is a dumb.
Positivity Corner - We love things and you should too!
Reader Questions - Not a ton of questions, but they were excellent. The readers really make these episodes special. Can’t thank you all enough for your help with these.
