Red Wings set high asking price for Gustav Nyquist, Jimmy Howard | MLive

The Red Wings, according to someone with knowledge of the situation, have set a high asking price for each player – a first-round pick. They don’t expect to get that for either.

That’s why they will try to re-sign Howard and Nyquist.

  1. I’m really happy the asking prices are high. They should be. However, the Wings are probably right not expecting someone to actually pay that price. I think I’d be happy with 2nd round picks.
  2. Wait... re-sign Gus Nyquist? We’ve seen the reports about bringing back Jimmy Howard and I’m kind of okay with that on a short term deal. But Nyquist? Don’t make a mistake, Kenny. Don’t overpay and create a log jam at the forward position that blocks younger players. Just don’t do it.

14. Another rental who doesn’t get much attention, but has quietly played pretty well: Detroit’s Nick Jensen. On a team that doesn’t have great possession numbers, his are pretty good. The Red Wings will need to make a decision on him over the next few weeks.

Trade him. Duh.
