The Winnipeg Jets claimed goaltender Eric Comrie off the waiver wire today, after Detroit attempted to send him to the AHL.
What happens next is unclear. Nobody seems to have a clear understanding of what would happen if Winnipeg tried to assign him to the AHL.
The easiest way to understand it is that the two possible ways that Detroit can get him back is if they were to trade with Winnipeg for him or if Winnipeg puts him back on waivers.
As JJ said today: “the Jets’ ability to assign or keep him is mostly their problem and the real focus for us is he’s likely not coming back.”
Obviously this isn’t what Detroit wanted to happen, but we’ll have to wait and see if this is a real setback in the Wings’ attempts to improve their goaltending over the long term.
