Martin Frk Placed on Waivers

Roster news out of Detroit today, as Martin Frk has been placed on waivers pending the return of Tyler Bertuzzi from injured reserve.

The 25-year old pending RFA has been on Detroit’s roster all season, but has only gotten into 25 games and has just one goal. With the only non-waivers options to make space for Bertuzzi being Michael Rasmussen, Christoffer Ehn, and Dennis Cholowski, the team obviously feels it’s best to risk losing Frk to waivers (again) rather than move any of those three everydayers off.

If you’ll remember back to 2016, Frk is a great trivia answer, as he was lost to Carolina on waivers that October, played in two games with them and then found himself back on waivers. Detroit was the only team to put a claim in on him at the time, which allowed the Wings to use a special clause in the CBA to send him to Grand Rapids that year despite him not having officially “cleared” waivers.

We will find out at noon tomorrow whether Frk has cleared. If so, the Wings will be able to assign him to Grand Rapids, although they won’t be compelled to do so. Once a player clears, he can play in 9 games or be on the roster for 29 calendar days before he would have to clear again for assignment.
