DETROIT — Red Wings defenseman Dennis Cholowski and forward Martin Frk have been assigned to the Griffins, the team announced following Thursday’s win over the Senators:
UPDATE: The #RedWings today assigned forward Martin Frk and defenseman Dennis Cholowski to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Cholowski, in his rookie year, has had a lot of success, but he has found himself a health scratch the last few games. The team presumably wants him to be playing 20+ minutes a night, and Grand Rapids is the best place for him right now, if that is the case.
Martin Frk cleared waivers early Thursday — he had spent significant time a health scratch, again, perhaps the best move for the player at this time. The Central division-leading Griffins will now be adding a top-six forward, and a top-four defenseman.
