In Red Wings Land
Red Wings weighing whether to sign or trade as deadline looms | MLive
The Red Wings also don’t seem inclined to want to stockpile more draft picks. Holland pointed out the team has had 31 picks from 2017-2019 and has a number of young players already on the roster, in Grand Rapids or elsewhere in the system.
“I think we’ve got a lot of future assets,” he said.
That’s why he’d prefer to keep some established NHL players.
If he can get a first-round pick for Howard or Nyquist, they’ll be gone for sure. But any offer that doesn’t include a first-rounder will require a decision.
You can never have too many future assets. Not every draft pick is going to become an NHL player, so you might as well take as many swings as you can and try to hit a home run.

Sellers should consider sitting trade chips ahead of deadline | TSN
I would be 100% on board with the Red Wings deciding to sit Gus Nyquist for final three games before the NHL trade deadline. Why risk it? Maybe whatever flu or illness he has will linger for the rest of the week. And if Jonathan Bernier is okay, the team should consider sitting Jimmy Howard too.
