This is the first deal Ken Holland has made ahead of the NHL trade deadline, which is set for Monday at 3pm. According to Dreger, in addition to Nick Jensen, the Capitals will get a 5th round pick.. The Red Wings are getting a 2nd round pick in 2020, and defenseman Madison Bowey in return. Bowey is a former 2nd round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
You can read more about Madison Bowey from our friends over at Japers Rink:
This trade is mostly about the draft pick. I don’t see Bowey having much of a future on an already log-jammed team. Reports indicated that the Red Wings wanted a 2nd round pick for Jensen, but most teams were offering a 3rd round pick. It appears that Holland decided to compromise and take a higher draft pick at a later year.
The Red Wings gave up the 5th round pick they received from Buffalo in the Scott Wilson trade to make this one happen, but it should be noted that they have three picks in the 5th round in the 2019 draft.
