In Red Wings Land
UPDATE: Nyquist is gone!
Red Wings Trade Forward Gustav Nyquist to Sharks for Picks | Winging It In Motown
Everything below was written before the trade. I would’ve loved a 1st, but Nyquist’s return is pretty much the same as what the Dallas Stars gave up for Mats Zuccarello.
Go San Jose Sharks, right?
These Detroit Red Wings could be moved by Monday’s NHL trade deadline | Freep
The Wings were interested in re-signing Nyquist, but balked at his asking price of five years at $5.5 million per.
I like Gus Nyquist, but I don’t want him back at that price and term. It’s probably a fair contract for him. I just don’t think it’s the smart move for this team at this time. The Red Wings don’t need another lengthy cap hit for a player who’s going to be 30+ at the start of next season. Ken Holland should send him packing today to a team we can cheer for in the playoffs and receive a 1st round pick in return.
Red Wings’ Holland encouraged by ‘tire kicking’ as trade deadline closes in | The Detroit News
“Do I get lots of calls about lots of people? Yes, but I don’t know what that means,” Holland said. “I don’t know if somebody’s (a prospective acquisition) ninth on their depth chart, if he’s second on their depth chart. So what ends up happening from a managerial perspective is you call around.
“I call it tire-kicking. You start to talk about players, Have I got teams kicking tires? Yes, I don’t know what the tire-kicking means. I’m going to know between now and Monday.”
I feel like this is the most in-depth tire-kicking definition we’ve ever gotten from Holland.
