In Red Wings Land

Young and talented forwards keying Red Wings’ rebuild | Detroit News

Young forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Tyler Bertuzzi, Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha are the foundation the Wings are building around.

All four had career-best offensive seasons, and gradually began taking over leadership of the team.

If the Wings are headed anywhere this season, or in the near future, this is the core that will likely take them there.

Tough to argue that the forward position isn’t the strongest area of this team. The big test for this upcoming season is whether the four players mentioned above can top their career-best offensive seasons. If that happens, plus guys like Filip Zadina emerge, then Steve Yzerman might actually have a decent core to work with.

It’s a wide open field for top of the NHL 2020 NHL Draft. 6 players who are legitimate candidates for 1st overall. Alexis Lafreniere, Hendrix Lapierre, Quinton Byfield, Cole Perfetti, Lucas Raymond & Yaroslav Askarov.

Never too early to start looking forward to the next NHL Draft. Maybe the Red Wings will get lucky in the lottery this time around.
