Red Wings blown away by Leafs in preseason finale | MLive

The final exhibition game featured nearly full NHL lineups in a dress rehearsal.

The Detroit Red Wings hope it’s not a sign of things to come when they start the regular season in a week.

Hope is not a strategy.

The Red Wings will need a plan for the regular season that’s different from whatever the heck they were doing last night. That game against the Maple Leafs was not fun to watch. I’m just glad the preseason is finally over and we can get to the games that actually count.

Red Wings Send Veleno, Zadina to Grand Rapids | WIIM

ICYMI:

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned forwards Ryan Kuffner, David Pope, Givani Smith, Evgeny Svechnikov, Joe Veleno and Filip Zadina and defensemen Oliwer Kaski, Gustav Lindstrom and Vili Saarijarvi to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

So does this mean Moritz Seider and Michael Rasmussen will be on the ice opening night?

7. Detroit Red Wings

(Last season: 74 points, 7th in Atlantic)

Reason to believe: They have some young forwards who took steps forward last season, including Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou and Tyler Bertuzzi. Filip Zadina could start making more of an impact as an offensive tool on the wing. Steve Yzerman is running the ship after building a perennial contender in Tampa Bay.

Another Atlantic Division preview that isn’t very optimistic about the Red Wings chances this season.
