In Red Wings Land

Red Wings’ scorers aren’t scoring, complicating severe offensive drought | Detroit News

The Wings have 123 goals – by far the lowest in the NHL. Their goal-differential is an amazing minus-106; Ottawa has the second-worst differential at minus-44.

The Red Wings don’t have an endless list of dynamic offensive players, or players who are pure goal-scorers.

Among the few scorers they do have, all are slumping at the same time currently.

If everyone — mostly Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou — had stayed healthy all year for the Red Wings, how much of a difference do you think it would have made in both the goal scoring and wins departments? It probably wouldn’t be a monumental difference, but you have to think it would be a few more goals and wins.

I would describe my first pro season as a learning curve. It took me a while to get it going. It’s definitely been an adjustment but I think the start of the second half, I’ve been a lot better at being more consistent in my play and playing better hockey. I just have to be patient with it. I’m trying to get better every day, working to be the best version of myself. But a lot of people are helping me with it and I’m really happy with the progress that I’ve made since the end of last year and I’ve no doubt that it’ll continue to get better.

Does Joe Veleno make the opening night roster next fall?
