In Red Wings Land
The American Hockey League announced today that Larry Figurski, sports anchor and reporter for WOOD TV8 and color commentator for Grand Rapids Griffins games on Newsradio WOOD 1300 and 106.9 FM, has been selected as the recipient of the James H. Ellery Memorial Award for the 2019-20 season.
Congrats to Larry!!
Around the NHL
Bear, who is from the Ochapowace Nation in southern Saskatchewan, will honour his Indigenous heritage by displaying his jersey name bar in Cree syllabics.
“It will be an honour to wear this jersey tonight,” the 23-year-old said. “I feel like I will be wearing it for all those Indigenous players who came before me and those Indigenous kids dreaming of playing in the NHL.”
I think this is really cool.
Every postseason features those players who have spent their entire careers chasing the Cup, but fallen short. Time is running out for many and this could be their last best chance at glory. Moments provided by Ray Bourque, Dave Andreychuk, and Rod Brind’Amour are among those that stand out.
Today’s NHL Power Rankings feature 10 Cup-less players we’ll be rooting for during these playoffs.
I know that not all of these players are options for our fanbase, but if we can’t be in it, it would be nice to see a veteran who hasn’t won it win it.
