Detroit Red Wings’ Michael Rasmussen gets back on score sheet, knows he must earn his role - Freep

“They don’t really hand out spots or designated roles,” he said. “I think you’ve just got to earn them. That’s just what I’m trying to do, just trying to earn my job.”

Blashill is also quoted in here in saying that Rasmussen needs to be a great defensive player and put in goals from “around the cage” so that’s what he’s got to work on I guess.

Around the NHL

NHL Trade Buzz: Panthers could look to add defenseman after Ekblad injury - NHL.com

In the short term, the Panthers can recall defenseman Anton Stralman from the taxi squad. He’s a right-hand shot like Ekblad and has scored nine points (three goals, six assists) in 29 games this season. Stralman cleared waivers and was assigned to the taxi squad Saturday.

I mean, that’s an option too I guess.

The article also talks about the potential of Patrick Marleau to get traded because he said he’s open to going to a contender. I kind of want this to happen because he’s about to hit a record for games played and doing it outside of a Sharks uniform would be funnier.
