Lightning keep cashing in on ex-GM Steve Yzerman’s masterfully built roster - Deadspin

“Well, I wouldn’t be committing to these guys being on the roster yet,” Yzerman said of his young top prospects. “They have to make the team. If they make the team, we’ll be thrilled. But they’re young guys. I want them to make the team and have a positive impact. Our expectation and our hope is that Moritz is ready to go. We’ll see that next fall. Lucas, I don’t want to rule it out, but we’ll let the situation play itself out. And if they prove they’re ready to go, they’ll be on the team. But I’m not going to force it or rush them. If they’re on the team and playing, we’ll be really happy. We have expectations for them. But is it next season or the season after? I’m not sure.”

The post is a bit outdated by now in terms of talking about that 8-0 game being “last night” but I don’t care about that as much as I care about how I’m glad I still have patience with a GM saying this stuff. I trust Yzerman still, and I don’t want kids ruined by being rushed.

Alleged assaults of Blackhawks players ‘an open secret’: source - TSN

“It’s cowardly to not address this publicly and hide in your office,” Kennedy in an interview. “This is about being a leader. The NHL should stand up and address this. Do everything they can to find out the truth and right the wrongs. …There must be accountability for people who know and do nothing. Where is the accountability from the Blackhawks for what happened to that high school boy in Michigan?”

I understand if you don’t want to read the post, but I want to share the names of the men who were in the room to meet with Paul Vincent, the man to whom the assaults had been reported

John McDonough - Team President (Fired April 2011)
Stan Bowman - General Manager (Still GM)
Al MacIsaac - VP, Hockey Operations (Now the Senior VP of Hockey Ops)
James Gary - Team Psychologist (Still listed as Mental Skills Coach)

Additionally, the story alleges that former Red Wings’ assistant coach John Torchetti, as well as the current head coach of Colorado College, Mike Haviland were told by Vincent.

Marc Bergevin was the Blackhawks director of player personnel at the time and Joel Quenneville was the team’s coach. Kevin Cheveldayoff was also with the Blackhawks at the time.

None of these men have had their lives impacted close to the degree of the Blackhawks players that came forward or to the degree of that Michigan teenager.

They were in a position to protect people and they didn’t. It’s disgusting.
