No trades for the Red Wings with this year’s first-round pick. Detroit selects forward Carter Bear with the 13th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Bear, who is listed as a left wing, is coming off of a 40-goal season the WHL. Everything I read paints him as a fierce offensive player. Bear told Kris Draper and Steve Yzerman that he was grateful for them on the ESPN broadcast. Yzerman described Bear as high-skill and an excellent overall player. “We’ve found ourselves a special young prospect here,” Steve Yzerman told the ESPN broadcast.
He’s not the biggest player — at six-foot and 179-pounds, he still plays like a buzzsaw. I think it’s a smart pick by Steve Yzerman because it adds some important dynamics to his future roster options. EliteProspects described it very well: “Bear’s playoffs-every-night mentality also powers his offensive game.”
