The NHL Trade Deadline is set for 3:00 PM ET today and we’re already seeing the big names come off the list. Given the returns we’ve seen on some trades, it’s pretty clear that it is a seller’s market.
With inflated prices for players who aren’t carrying much term, we can assume that Steve Yzerman is content with quietly sitting on the sidelines this year. Perhaps a sound strategy given the team’s recent slump, but one could also make the argument that the team is just a couple of points out from the playoff picture, so some depth is warranted in this case.
The Red Wings need depth in two critical spots — center and defense. With the loss of Andrew Copp, the team has struggled (Copp is the glue guy apparently), and its awfully thin down the middle of the forward lineup. Take Christian Fischer out of the mix since he was claimed by Columbus, it’s becoming a more dire situation at center.
We’re tracking trades in this article, so we’ll be updating the noteworthy deals. Will probably miss some because I am not as chronically online as some of you. 😉 Comments are encouraged!
