The NHL’s free agency period opens today at noon, and Steve Yzerman has either a lot of work to do or little work to do. Just depends on what his vibe is I guess? This year’s class of free agents isn’t impressive. Very few players that would move the needle a lot, so any free agents signings by Detroit will be in the margins.
Still not much on the Dylan Larkin front. All reports point to Yzerman putting his foot down until either Larkin gives him more teams to work with, or Minnesota finds a third team to pull off a trade.

Detroit needed some insurance at the goaltender position after the Sebastian Cossa trade. Trey Augustine and Michal Postava were never going to be handed the backup position. Signing Tarasov adds some much-needed depth with NHL experience. - Red Wings sign Cameron Butler to a one-year deal
