Detroit Red Wings Midday News: Datsyuk and Zetterberg not Practicing, Gustavsson to Start Saturday?

A couple bits from the Wings diggers today. First up:

They don’t really need Datsyuk and Zetterberg practicing, but I wish they were both healthy enough to be doing so. The magic that Z brought into the lineup with him last night was palpable… right up until he started running out of gas. Both players really struggled late in the game to keep their legs moving. The good news is that Alfredsson could play on Saturday, which I’m guessing would knock Bertuzzi out of the lineup.

In goalie news, Jimmy Howard is still apparently battling the flu, the point where the Wings will have to have a real backup for Gustavsson tomorrow.

UPDATE!

Gustavsson will start Game 5. Howard will be the back up.

Ok, so the Griffins are in Abbotsford getting ready to take on the Heat in their first round matchup. I know the Wings are more important, but with the way this series is looking, I don’t think raiding Grand Rapids’ starter just to play backup is a good move. The diggers aren’t entirely sure about things right now, but if Howard is ruled out for tomorrow, they’re all saying that Jake Paterson will get the call-up.

We’ll update with more news as it happens.
