Red Wings’ Alex Biega a major promoter of life after hockey for NHL players | Detroit News

With that mind, Biega has been active in the NHL/NHL Players Association Core Development Program (CDP) since its inception in October 2016.

The CDP aims to help the transition for players to careers after hockey, and life after hockey.

“Once I was approached (by the NHLPA) about it, I felt it was a resource that was definitely needed in the NHL,” Biega said during a phone conversation from his home last week, during the NHL’s pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. “I’ve been an advocate for it, in terms of how to build it, and from a player’s perspective, what could be utilized from it.

I had no idea the NHL/NHL Players Association Core Development Program existed. That’s cool. Good for Alex Biega too.

NHL commish: Completing regular season ‘may not be possible’ | ESPN

Bettman said the NHL faces issues of fairness regarding “who gets in if we can’t complete the regular season” before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. NHL teams have anywhere from 11 to 14 games remaining in their regular seasons, with 189 games left when play was postponed. Determining how to seed the playoffs without the benefit of a completed regular season has been a point of debate within the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association for weeks.

”We had seven teams on the bubble and they all think they would have had a chance. We have to deal with the lottery and order of selection in the draft,” Bettman said.
