Quick Hits: The Spicy Meatballs on the Menu Edition

In Red Wings Land

Anthony Mantha ready to return, which will deepen Red Wings’ lineup | Detroit News

“I wouldn’t be saying I was ready to go if I wasn’t,” said Mantha, whose 12 goals still lead after the team despite Mantha missing eight games. “I feel perfectly fine. The results (of tests) are good. I did off-ice testing and everything was good.

“I don’t see a reason why I wouldn’t be in except we’re starting two-in-two (games, days).”

The Wings can certainly use Mantha’s offense, and presence on the ice. They’ve gone 1-7-0 without him, the victory coming Thursday against Winnipeg, ending that 12-game winless streak.

I’ve been craving some spicy meatballs, so this is superb timing.

Jeff Blashill appears to have shuffled the deck a bit too. It looks like Anthony Mantha might have some new line mates for his return.

I can’t speak for everyone, but the idea of Mantha playing with Filip Zadina sounds pretty damn good to me. That could be a fun duo for the Red Wings.

5. It’s never too early to start thinking about the 2020 draft. Which team deserves Alexis Lafreniere the most?

[…]

Peters: I don’t know that any team deserves rewards for being so terrible, but the Detroit Red Wings need Lafreniere or Quinton Byfield — or basically anyone — right now. It’s imperative that Detroit lands one of the top two picks to help its cause. Either of those players would be significant pieces for the future, and both will be NHL-ready next year and are producing at an alarming rate this season.
