Quick Hits: The Look on the Bright Side Edition

In Red Wings Land

THE RED WINGS ARE ON PACE FOR HISTORICALLY AWFUL RESULTS, BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME SILVER LININGS | The Hockey News

So what are those silver linings for the Red Wings?

  • Possible top NHL draft lottery odds
  • Opportunities for younger players to prove themselves
  • Tyler Bertuzzi — Dylan Larkin — Anthony Mantha
  • Filip Zadina getting a taste of the NHL
  • Potential fire sale at the trade deadline/

That’s a pretty decent list.

If you just focus on just those five items and ignore the giant pile of losses and goals against, then this season just might not be all that bad after all.

Blunder on the Backend: How can Steve Yzerman right the ship? | WIIM

There’s no doubt that Steve Yzerman has his work cut out for him, and I believe that he knows it won’t come solely come through drafting and developing. What will fix this team is a carefully calculated series of transactions through trade, and meticulous research of the free agency market not only this offseason, but the ones ahead. The Red Wings sit in a very unique position, as they have a handful of albatross contracts coming off the books in the next couple of years, which opens up a lot of money for Yzerman to work with — but should he try and make an immediate splash in the free agency market? It’s complicated.

31 Thoughts: A ‘Code of Conduct’ is coming to the NHL | Sportsnet

What I heard is Holland didn’t like how players gave McSorley that information, and told them that if they wanted to say anything to him (or be traded), they could meet him privately in his office and he would keep those conversations secret. I don’t believe anyone asked out. McSorley left his Sharks’ TV role following the 2006-07 season. Anyway, just some clarity on that situation.

There are a couple ‘Thoughts’ in this one about Mike Babcock, Ken Holland and the Wings.
