Quick Hits: The Opportunity Edition

In Red Wing Land

Injuries on defense mounting for banged-up Red Wngs | Detroit News

The Wings traveled to California without defensemen Danny DeKeyser and Trevor Daley, knowing both veterans wouldn’t be returning soon.

While in California, the Wings have seen Filip Hronek and Patrik Nemeth added to the sidelines, both injured while blocking shots.

Nemeth blocked a shot last weekend and the area became infected. He will miss the entire California trip and likely much more. Coach Jeff Blashill told reporters Thursday that Nemeth could be out three weeks.

This seems like a great opportunity for guys like Dennis Cholowski, Madison Bowey and, to a lesser extent, Joe Hicketts and Dylan McIlrath to prove themselves.

You want ice time and a chance to be in Detroit for the long haul this season and maybe beyond? Take advantage of the ice time and show Jeff Blashill and Steve Yzerman that you belong in the NHL.

Flames’ T.J. Brodie ‘doing well’ after on-ice collapse during practice | Sportsnet

On Thursday, Brodie collapsed on the ice during practice and began convulsing as teammates and staff rushed to attend to him. He was alert and responsive on the ice when first responders arrived, and was stretchered off the ice and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Happy to hear that T.J. Brodie is okay. Scary stuff.
