Quick Hits: The Dylan Larkin Edition

In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin shows some frustration as losses continue to mount | Freep

“I was frustrated,” Larkin said. “The last goal was my fault. I didn’t mean to take out Ovechkin there. He just happened to be there.”

Red Wings fans hoping to see more signs of life from their team got some consolation in the 5-2 loss. It was truly a one-goal game, as two of Ovechkin’s goals came with Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier on the bench.

The Wings lost their previous three games by a combined score of 14-1. They’ve lost in regulation during the last seven games of their nine-game winless streak.

I wasn’t alive for the Dead Wings era, so this is easily the most frustrating season I’ve ever witnessed as a Red Wings fan. Hard to blame Dylan Larkin for feeling the same way. I just keep looking at the standings and seeing Detroit in last place. It sucks, but a top four pick might go a long way to help avoid another historically bad year like this.

EARLY-SEASON STRUGGLES: FIVE PLAYERS WHO NEED TO SNAP OUT OF SLUMPS | The Hockey News

Dylan Larkin, C (Detroit)

When Larkin started the season with six points in the first four games, it looked as though he would be one of the few bright spots for the Red Wings this season. But the past few weeks have been underwhelming for Larkin, who has recorded one assist in his past eight games before he picked up an assist in Saturday’s outing.

Other than the mountain of losses by the team, I have to imagine that part of Larkin’s frustration comes with his production on the ice. He isn’t having a terrible season at all, but the bar is high for the likely future captain of Hockeytown.
