Red Wings waive Eric Comrie, with Jimmy Howard nearing return | Detroit News
Detroit – The Red Wings waived goaltender Eric Comrie Wednesday, after Jimmy Howard played in a minor league rehab start Tuesday and looked ready to rejoin the Detroit lineup.
Howard stopped 30 shots for Grand Rapids in a 3-2 shootout victory over San Diego.
Howard is expected to rejoin the Wings in time for Thursday’s practice, and likely play one of the two games this weekend – Saturday in Toronto, or Sunday at home against Arizona.
We’ll find out later today if Comrie is still a member of the Red Wings organization. Prashanth has more info on the decision by Steve Yzerman:
So I guess the 3D chess move here by Yzerman is that any team that claims Comrie would have to keep him on the NHL roster and if they choose to trade him, they have to first offer him to DET. If they choose to waive him and DET is only claiming team, they can assign him to AHL

There are certainly teams that may consider keeping Comrie on the NHL roster the rest of the season like the Leafs but seems like a calculated gamble here

31 Thoughts: Who’s next on the NHL rental market? | Sportsnet
There are no Red Wings players mentioned in this one. I can’t imagine anyone is going to trade for Trevor Daley, right? At this point, what is Mike Green actually worth at the deadline? A 2nd rounder at best? Is that too high of an ask?
