Too many slumping forwards dragging down Red Wings’ offense | MLive

The top line of Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi has cooled off but still has accounted for 11 of the team’s 19 goals. Blashill made an adjustment — swapping Darren Helm for Bertuzzi – at times during the trip. Ideally, they would like to keep that top line intact and get some offense from Andreas Athanasiou, Taro Hirose, Valtteri Filppula, Frans Nielsen and Justin Abdelkader, none of whom have scored yet.

I’m not sure what the lineup equation is for producing more offense, but I’m all for keeping the top line together. As for the rest of the lineup? Just keep throwing crap against the wall and try to find something that sticks. If that doesn’t work…

Draper and the Red Wings’ scouting staff already know about No. 2-ranked Byfield, a 6-4, 215-pound center who has been compared favorably to 10-time Stanley Cup champion Jean Beliveau (Canadiens), three-time Cup champ Evgeny Malkin (Penguins) and 50-goal scorer Leon Draisaitl (Oilers).

Well, maybe the Red Wings will have a chance to draft his kid.
