Detroit Red Wings suffer first loss after Anaheim Ducks’ late goals, 3-1 | Freep

Jimmy Howard and John Gibson went save-for-save until two quick goals from the Ducks in the third period left the Wings little time to rally. They suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-1.

Filip Hronek scored late in the second period. Dylan Larkin put the puck in Anaheim’s net midway through the third period after a nifty passing move down low by Tyler Bertuzzi, but the Ducks successfully challenged Anthony Mantha was offsides by mere inches on the play. Jimmy Howard was pulled with nearly three minutes remaining in regulation for the extra attacker. Gibson finished with 31 saves to 26 by Howard.

Welp... this one was a bummer.

It was such a quick turn of events and a roller coaster of emotions. We went from thrilled to be up 2-1 to unhappy about the offsides challenge to super disappointed when it became a two goal deficit in a blink-of-an-eye. We’ll see if Jeff Blashill & co. can bounce back tomorrow night against the Canadiens in Montreal.

10. Monday night, the Red Wings made several roster changes due to injury, calling up defencemen Oliwer Kaski and newly acquired Alex Biega. Out are Trevor Daley and Jonathan Ericsson. The Red Wings have a lot of bodies on the blue line, including three UFAs (Daley, Ericsson and Mike Green). Hronek, with two points in two games, averaging 22 minutes, looks like a keeper. If they wanted to, they could certainly be a target for anyone looking for defence (say, Winnipeg).

Kaski has been sent back down to the Griffins. However, if the Jets or anyone else wants to take an old defenseman off our hands... be my guest!
