In Red Wings Land

Losses mount along with speculation about Jeff Blashill’s future with Red Wings | Detroit News

“Part of that is on the coaching staff and our leadership to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Blashill said about maintaining the winning culture. “Dylan Larkin was the best player in practice today. That’s what great leaders do, they go out and when it’s bleak and doesn’t look good, they go out and lead the way. He was excellent, and that’s the work ethic and commitment it’s going to take not to lose the culture, and that’s important to everybody in this room, to (general manager) Steve Yzerman, and important to everybody in the organization.”

I don’t know what Jeff Blashill’s immediate future is going to be with the Red Wings, but despite the disastrous start to this season, he still seems confident in his players and is trying to keep things together in the locker room the best he can. And based on the quotes in the article from Larkin and his teammates, the players still — at least publicly — believe in their head coach.

“Detroit’s visiting room is super nice. But it’s not my favorite. Because in Detroit, you walk out and they have this restaurant there for fans right before the entrance to the ice. I usually go out first and like to stand there for a minute or two. But all these fans are knocking on the glass. It’s pretty annoying.”

The Wings are too nice these days! When this team eventually returns to the playoffs, they need to revisit Scotty Bowman’s playbook and paint the opponent’s room before games.
