In Red Wings Land

Niyo: Filip Zadina gives Red Wings good reason to believe in him | Detroit News

Not just by scoring seven points in his last seven games, including a one-goal, two-assist performance in Thursday’s streak-busting win over Winnipeg. (Zadina became the third-youngest Red Wings player to record a three-point game behind Yzerman and Lane Lambert in the mid-1980s.) But also with his competitive play overall — forechecking aggressively, winning puck battles and playing with more patience and poise as he hangs on to the puck in the offensive zone.

Zadina led all Detroit forwards in even-strength ice time (15:36) against the Kings, and his total ice time (17:53) was a career high for a regulation game.

It’s hard not to get excited about the recent play of Filip Zadina.

Notes: Wings hoping Mantha and Zadina could be winning combination | DetroitRedWings.com

After the game Sunday, Zadina said he enjoyed playing with Mantha.

”It’s tough to say right now, after two games, but we both are skill players and we know what to do with the puck and when to pass the puck,” Zadina said. “For sure it’s easier to play with him. I’m so glad to play with him and give him some chances and create some plays together. It’s fun.”

Anthony Mantha and Zadina is a tag team combination that gets my stamp of approval.

Taylor Hall trade grades: New Jersey Devils lose out in deal sending star to Arizona Coyotes | Sporting News

New Jersey: C+

You rarely win a trade when your team is in the doldrums and you are forced to move a star with an expiring contract. This was the situation Shero was in and while some might say he got the best deal available, the truth is that he’s had 37 draft picks since 2016 and is in desperate need of NHL-caliber support or anything resembling a goalie prospect — or both. Instead, he got three B-level prospects and a potential late first-round pick.

I’m glad Taylor Hall went to the Coyotes. It would be fun to see them go on a playoff run.
