Svechnikov shows promise, Bernier sharp as Leafs down Wings in shootout | Detroit News

Svechnikov’s camp: Having missed all of last season (knee surgery), Svechnikov isn’t going to make the opening night roster. There’s simply too much rust to knock off, and get acclimated to playing hockey again.

But Svechnikov has had a promising camp. Friday’s goal was his second of the preseason, and he’s been an agitating presence who hasn’t been afraid to engage physically.

I’m happy to see Evgeny Svechnikov have a solid preseason campaign. It seems like he’s destined for Grand Rapids, but I have to image if he has a strong start in the AHL that a call up to join the Red Wings will happen sooner rather than later.

The combination of Larkin and Anthony Mantha is excellent, but beyond that, the Red Wings’ only real chance of generating anything resembling consistent offense right now is Andreas Athanasiou breaking free on the rush and doing it himself.

The Wings are ranked 30th.
